Installing printers under Linux

  1. Check whether you are in the AIFB network. Either in the WLAN, LAN or via VPN2VLAN.
  2. Download printer driver from the manufacturer's website: Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3930i (as of 17.04.2024)
  3. Unzip the downloaded folder by right-clicking on the folder
  4. Open the terminal
  5. Change to the folder with 'cd FILE PATH/'
  6. Execute setup with 'sudo ./setup'
  7. The output should look like this
  8. Open settings
  9. Scroll to the Printer menu item -> Then click on "Add a printer"
  10. Enter the DNS name of the printer in the search field - A list of multifunction devices follows
    Floor Printer name
    1ST FLOOR aifb-mfc-1og.aifb.kit.edu
    2ND FLOOR aifb-mfc-2og.aifb.kit.edu
    3RD FLOOR aifb-mfc-3og.aifb.kit.edu
    5TH FLOOR aifb-mfc-5og.aifb.kit.edu

  11. Wait briefly and select the desired printer which usually begins with 'iR-ADV-' and click on 'Add'
