Today, cloud services are used for everything, for example, for messaging (e.g., WhatsApp), collaborating in teams (e.g., Asana), managing businesses (e.g., SAP ByDesign), streaming video and music (e.g., Amazon Music and Video), and playing games online (e.g., GamingAnywhere), and cloud services will continue to transform the world we live in on multiple levels and in various ways. Cloud computing also provides the infrastructure that has powered other key digital trends including mobile computing, the internet of things, big data, and artificial intelligence, thereby accelerating industry dynamics, disrupting existing business models, and fuelling the digital transformation.Cloud computing has emerged from an underdeveloped and less understood technology to a critical infrastructure for today’s businesses. While cloud services have transformed throughout the years, also its key characteristics have evolved. For example, virtualization technology has been proposed to one of the core enabling technologies, whereas nowadays, container technology like Docker has proven to be a valuable alternative for virtualization.


The objective of this thesis is to identify and discuss key characteristics of cloud computing. You might do some literature work, interview cloud users and providers, do a survey, whatever you like.
