Background:

There is plenty of use cases distributed ledger technology (DLT) can be applied to such as internet-of-things and finance. Each use case comes with individual requirements on DLT designs demanding for specific configurations of DLT design characteristics such as scalability, level of anonymity and smart contract support. Due to trade-offs between DLT design characteristics, there is no one-size-fits-all DLT design but numerous DLT designs targeting at specific use cases. As a result, there exist various DLT designs in parallel, which are used in their specific domain with regards to individual requirements. Therefore, the ability of DLT designs to exchange data among each other appears crucial to increase flexibility of applications integrating DLT. We are especially interested in theses on interoperability between different DLT designs and interoperability between DLT designs and external services.


Objective(s): Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Analysis and comparison of existing approaches to enable interoperability between DLT designs
  • Development of conceptual or implementational approaches on interoperability between DLT designs
  • Analysis and comparison of interoperability between DLT designs and external services

This is an umbrella topic since work with a strong focus on theory will only work with a strong personal interest. The suitability of a topic you propose will be discussed during a first meeting.
