|Beschreibung DE=Analysts identified “Internet of Everything” (IoE) (a new incarnation of the former term “Internet of Things”) “as one of the major technology trends that will have a tremendous impact on life”. The term IoE stands for a collection of uniquely identified objects connected in an Internet-like structure, serving as sensors or actuators. However, Forrester Research stated recently that “there is no Internet of Things, yet”. Indeed, what makes the traditional Internet pervasive is the ability to consume its content easily by eventually everybody. This is still not the case in the IoE. In this talk we discuss the main differences in thinking between the traditional Internet (which follows the request-response paradigm) and the Internet of Everything (which follows the sense & respond paradigm). The talk will provide comprehensive survey of IoE applications available today, glimpse at the role of IoE in changing the human life, and will go deeper into the gaps that exist today and some work related to resolving these issues, especially work on radical simplification of application construction.

Opher Etzion serves as Professor of IS, and head of the Technological Empowerment Institute in YVC. During the years 1997-2014 he served in various roles in IBM, most recently IBM Senior Technical Staff Member and chief scientist of event processing in IBM Haifa Research Lab. He has also been the chair of EPTS (Event Processing Technical Society). In parallel he serves as an adjunct professor at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where over the years he supervised 6 PhD and 22 MSc theses. He has authored or

co-authored more than 80 papers in refereed journals and conferences, on topics related to: active databases, temporal databases, rule-base systems, event processing and autonomic computing. He is the co-author of Event Processing in Action (with Peter Niblett), a comprehensive technical book about event processing. Prior to joining IBM in 1997, he has been a faculty member and Founding Head of the Information Systems

Engineering department at the Technion, and held professional and managerial positions in industry and in the Israel Air-Force.
