Job Description

As member of the EU project XLike which aims at cross-lingual knowledge extraction from news and social text streams we seek to fill a position for a fully funded (PhD students are hired as Scientific Staff) for two years, with renewal possible.

We are seeking applications from individuals with a very good Masters degree (or equivalent) in computer science (or related) and background and research interest in at least one of the topic areas Text Mining, Natural Language Processing, Graph Mining, Statistical Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Semantic Technologies. Further, we require general competencies that qualify you for scientific work, active participation in research projects and assistance in the guidance of students and lecturing. The position requires advanced English language skills.

The Knowledge Management research group at the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) is an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists and related disciplines and among the leading international institutions in the field of semantic technologies. KIT is one of the three initial German Excellence Universities, and one of the leading universities in science and engineering in Europe. Our group offers a first class and international research environment with various interdisciplinary but related research topics and projects. The close cooperation with the, Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe (FZI), the Karlsruhe Service Research Institute (KSRI) and a large industry partner network allow for the combination of fundamental and applied research and a fast transfer of research results into practice.
