Beschreibung

Cloud computing is one of the most important trends which is currently being deployed by the ICT industry and contains a wide range of opportunities for realization of innovative business models. Among other things, the demand-oriented provision of computing power, storage and, software is enabled via the Internet. This provision is also possible via different terminals, thereby location-independent and flexible access to information can be ensured. The capabilities by the use of cloud computing services are enormous. However, there are also challenges arising in this context to be addressed in an appropriate manner.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie, BMWi) supports the development and testing of innovative, secure, and legally compliant cloud services by establishing the “Trusted Cloud” program with a total of about 50 m. Euro. In addition, own funds of project participants are at approximately the same height, so that totally about 100 m. euro are available for the program. The BMWi technology program “Trusted Cloud” is part of the action program “cloud computing” which was launched by the BMWi together with its partners from industry and science in October 2010.

On behalf of all the partners of the project Value4Cloud, Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar has received a research grant recommendation as part of the technology program “Trusted Cloud” on the Cebit in Hanover on the 1st of March 2011.

The objective of the funded project Value4Cloud is research and development of the market-supporting value-added services to support trust, legal compliance, quality, and the use of cloud services. The integration of these value-added services in already existing market places and information portals (e.g., BITKOM cloud-practice.de) addresses both providers and users at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany. This is for instance achieved by structuring provided information, classification of cloud services, services for quality evaluation of cloud services, services for benchmarking cloud services, and trust supporting measures.

Suppliers are supported by design proposals for developing legally compliant cloud services and open-service innovation. In addition to the implementation and pilot tests of value-added services, business, service, and operator models are developed.

Academic partners in the Value4Cloud project are Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar (Fortiss, An-Institut der TU München), Prof. Dr. Alexander Rossnagel (Universität Kassel), Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister (Universität Kassel), and Prof. Dr. Ali Sunyaev.

Furthermore, the development and wideranging utilisation of the results are being acquired by the project partners gate (Garchinger Technologie- und Gründerzentrum GmbH), SpaceNet AG and further ten additional transfer partners in the project consortium.

In addition, the project has the objective to transport the developed concepts, methods, models, and tools for supporting trust, legal compliance, quality and the use of cloud services at mid-sized German companies, with a broad impact in practice, by participating in annual conventions and workshops.

Moreover, the results are incorporated in information portals that are operated by project partners, certification products, and cloud services for SMEs.
