|Abstract=Disruptive innovations provide a new dimension of performance for the market. They are typically characterized by a novel interplay of technological, business, and legal aspects. Due to this rapid uptake, many technologies are built upon proprietary designs and mature with the innovation. In consequence, technology and business standards as well as suitable legal framework become necessary to ensure functioning markets. Assessing the needs, benefi�ts, and use of available standards and making a choice for or against a standard is, thus, as challenging as it is crucial to sustain the own success in the market. This paper is based on lessons learned in Germany's Trusted Cloud program, reflecting on standardization concerns as observed among the Trusted Cloud research projects. Based on our �findings, we derive the Framework for Assessing Standards and Technology in Disruptive Innovation (FAST). It includes guiding questions, which stakeholders in standardization should answer, when classifying or selecting standards to make an educated decision for or against a particular standard or technology.
