Organic Computing in Off-highway Machines

Contact: Sanaz Mostaghim

Project Status: completed

Description

In this interdisciplinary project between the Institute for Vehicle Technology and Mobile Machines (MOBIMA) and the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) the concepts of Organic Computing (OC) will be integrated into Off-highway Machines. The main objective is to minimize fuel consumption by modular development and implementation of an Observer-Controller architecture in order to realize a self-organizing, reliable, adaptive and robust machine management. The design and subsequent implementation require both quantification and control of the effects caused by emergent global behavior in networks of intelligent autonomous agents as represented by the components of an Off-highway Machine. In this project, a simulation model of the Off-highway machine will be developed as an environment for testing the Observer-Controller architecture. After complete implementation and simulative testing of the concepts from OC , comprehensive measurements will be conducted on a real machine rigged with additional sensor technology. These measurements will help to better evaluate the future potential control strategy provided for other machines and fields of application, and could constitute a foundation for a follow-up project to optimize and generalize this novel technology.
