Kurzfassung
The paper looks at ICT certification systems in Europe and explores their possible future role in the context of IT professionalism and professional competence development. The situation on the market is analysed and empirical data about widely applied systems in the countries is presented. Further, the paper looks into how to overcome existing boundaries built mainly by the caused non-transparency and interoperability of offerings on the markets. Stakeholders across Europe are currently discussing solutions how to leverage the demand-oriented supply of ICT skills in Europe. ICT certifications offer aspired "opportunities-to-learn" as part of a larger transition process towards individualised learning paths. Most of these systems act globally and have become meanwhile an integral part of the education and training landscape in Europe and beyond.
