The 9th International ACM Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy 2018), one of the premier venues for researchers working in the broad areas of computing and communication for smart energy systems and smart grids as well as of energy-efficient computing and communication systems, was held in Karlsruhe from June 12 to 15. It attracted over 150 participants from 25 countries, making it the largest ACM e-Energy conference to date.

This year's conference was organized by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and headed by the general chair Hartmut Schmeck. The workshop day with four workshops and over 120 participants took place at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology and the actual conference with 20 full papers, 22 notes and 37 posters at the AkademieHotel in Karlsruhe-Rüppur. The high quality of the contributions was reflected in the low acceptance rate of 22% for the full paper submissions.

On Tuesday, four workshops were held on the topics of energy-efficient data centers, electric mobility, energy markets and analysis of energy data. During the following three conference days, contributions on topics of Energy Iinformatics were presented in eight sessions and a poster session. Each conference day began with a keynote. Keynote speakers were Antonello Monti (RWTH Aachen) on the topic "Energy Packets", Marc Timme (TU Dresden) on "Braess' Paradox in Transmission Systems" Jens Griesing (Energy Web Foundation) on "Blockchain in the Energy Sector".
